5 Tips To Stay Lean Over the Holidays!
The holidays are fully upon us but let’s not let the holiday parties and gatherings sabotage everything we have worked for this year. Here are a few tips to enjoy them without going overboard:
Don’t attend gatherings on an empty stomach. When you go hungry, you will pretty much eat anything in front of you. Try having a protein shake before you go, so that you stay fuller longer and stunt your appetite.
Drink plenty of water. Water is definitely your friend at all times, not just during the holidays. However, as we get busy sometimes we tend to forget to drink it. If you are at a gathering and there are no healthy choices, water can give you a “full” feeling and curb you appetite while keeping you hydrated.
Don’t deprive, but don’t indulge. Watch your portion sizes at parties and gatherings. It’s ok to have some pumpkin pie but don’t overindulge. Keep yourself in the 80/20 rule. Eat healthy foods 80 percent of the time, which then allows you to indulge in your favorite treats 20 percent of the time.
Exercise. Let’s face it. We will all be eating more during the holidays and although we all tend to get busy, keeping your workout routine is one of the most important things you can do to keep those extra pounds away.
If you’re going to be drinking alcohol, make smart choices. A half cup of spiked eggnog can be upwards of 200 calories vs. a glass of champagne which is around 100. If you aren’t sure of the calories, check my fitness pal or another app where you can find out nutritional information.
Be safe, have fun and let’s have an amazing holiday season!
